Strange weekend

Friday afternoon.. first a visit to my dad, then off to the Buddhavihara for a talk about what to do with the computer administration.. then an hour too late I arrive at my ex's place to pick her up for a Babylon 5, sushi weekend at my place.

Strange combo? Maybe, but B5 is still the best sci-fi series ever made, so now that it's out on DVD we're holding B5 marathons to get through the entire series.. ;)
And she's teaching me how to make sushi, I love sushi, but it's much too expensive if you have to go out to eat it, making your own is a lot cheaper and as it turns out, not so very difficult and very very tasty! :)

A ghost from the past...

I was going to write about how excited I am that they did it, SpaceShipOne reached space and more importantly the pilot had a safe landing... And I am excited and happy about that, but then Marjan sent me a couple of photo's she found while tidying up..

Meet Sweepy, she was with me for some 22 years, she died about 4 years ago. You can see from the look in her eye that she was quite a mean and nasty cat, but I still miss her. ;)

Holiday shopping

One of the fun parts of the preparation and a good way to get your mind ready for the trip is holiday shopping.
So this weekend I went shopping around at some sport shops, browsing the trekking equipment, comparing sleeping mats and backpacks, deciding what I definitely need.. like do I really need a first aid kit, nah.. just some plasters, bandages and disinfectant will do, anything more serious and I'll have to find a doctor/medic anyway.

And so the final score for the weekend turns out to be an inflatable sleeping mat, a light sleeping bag and a quality mosquitonet, a definite must-have in a malaria region.
Now all I have to do is decide on a good backpack and I'll have all the essentials.

It's good to see it all come together...

The final frontier

It doesn't have anything to do with going to Thailand, but hey it's my blog, I can and will write about anything I want to. :)

And I think this is just so very cool, monday SpaceShipOne will (try to) make the first manned private spaceflight!

I wish them luck.

Boing Boing has daily updates as they get ready for launch, so check it out.

In the beginning...

A beginning is a difficult moment..

How to begin?
Let me start by telling you why, why do I feel the need to startup my own blog?

In one month, the 24th of July to be exact, I will be going to Thailand, I'll do some traveling, I'll visit some friends, but most of all I will work as a volunteer for 6+ months with these people.
I will do some teaching, farming, whatever, anything that needs doing.. It is going to be a huge adventure and I hope an experience which will refresh my outlook on life and on my future.

So maybe now you'll start to understand why I want this blog, to document as much as possible about what I encounter and as a convenient way to keep the people back home informed from halfway around the world.

Well, that was the beginning... I have no idea how often this blog will be updated, also depends on how often I'll manage to find an internetcafe, but I promise I'll try to be regular. ;)
